The Global Tipping Points group says the world may have reached the point of no return in stopping the long-term effects of climate change. Their latest report is for 2025. A total of 160 authors, from 23 countries and 87 institutions, contributed

The world has entered a new reality. “Global warming will soon exceed 1.5°C. This puts humanity in the danger zone where multiple climate tipping points pose catastrophic risks to billions of people.” However, several experts believe we are already beyond that. Among the aspects of the climate that were explored more directly were the poles, which are melting quickly, and as they become irreparable, sea levels rise. The domino effect is that parts of nations on the oceans are flooded, leaving hundreds of millions of people stranded.

The shocking point is “Humanity faces a potentially catastrophic, irreversible outcome.”

Falling Short Of Goals

Since earlier reports, EVs and solar power have grown, but their effects are well short of what is necessary. And, many nations have withdrawn from their climate commitments.

The report summary ends as most climate reports do. If public policy and public discord do not race to lower emissions, the chance to dodge the worst effects disappears.
