Trump Approves Destruction Of Some US Forests

The Trump administration says America has enough forest land to be self-sufficient without importing timber. It has set rules so that much of the country’s forest land can be logged immediately and with few restrictions.
A new Executive Order, “Immediate Expansion Of American Timber Production,” reads, “Our inability to fully exploit our domestic timber supply has impeded the creation of jobs and prosperity, contributed to wildfire disasters, degraded fish and wildlife habitats, increased the cost of construction and energy, and threatened our economic security.” This occurs just as 25% tariffs are put on Canadian imports. A large portion of these imports are timber.
280 Million Acres
The Guardian estimates that the Executive Order covers 280 million acres and reports objections from environmentalists. Chad Hanson, a wildfire scientist at the John Muir Project, said, “This Trump executive order is the most blatant attempt in American history by a president to hand over federal public lands to the logging industry.”
Drill Baby, Drill
The announcement takes a good approach, like “drill baby, drill.” The Trump Administration wants to help the US oil industry expand quickly and widely.
The timber announcement is the far side of the decision to cut leases for wind and wind energy locations. That administration’s decision will crippled wind, perhaps permanently.
