It is certainly possible to measure the effects of some climate disasters. For instance, AccuWeather recently put this year’s Atlantic hurricanes’ cost at $500 billion, including property damage, long-term business results and productivity.
There is no argument that hurricanes, hail, tornadoes, floods and drought have temporarily and permanently damaged some parts of the economy. The drought in the southwest and parts of California is still called a 1,200-year drought despite large storms from the Pacific. Hurricane damage is intermittent but huge.
