Extreme Drought Threatens Nebraska’s Vital Corn and Soybean Production
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reports from New York City that western Nebraska, particularly around Scott’s Bluff and Alliance, is facing extreme drought, according to the Drought Monitor. McIntyre highlights that Nebraska, a top global producer of corn and soybeans, depends heavily on irrigation — with 55% of corn acres relying on it. However, he warns that if water sources continue to dry up, the state’s agriculture industry could suffer devastating impacts.
