Massive Wildfire Out Of Control In Grand Canyon Becomes Largest in U.S.
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reports that the Grand Canyon is now the site of the largest U.S. wildfire of the year. Sparked by lightning on July 4th, the Dragon Bravo Fire has grown beyond 165,000 acres—easily surpassing the threshold for a “megafire.” McIntyre notes that the northern rim of the Grand Canyon has been shut down, disrupting tourism, and further highlighting the escalating threat of wildfire across the American West. For comparison, Oregon’s Cram Fire was the second-largest this year at 95,000 acres but has now been contained.
