Political Stability At risk? Water Scarcity could Halve World’s Food Supply
A recent study predicts that in twenty years, half of the world’s food production will be at risk due to water scarcity, a development that threatens significantly impact economies around the world. Rich countries could see an 8% GDP decline, while poorer, agriculture-dependent nations may suffer a 15% drop. The study highlights the importance of groundwater, rivers and other freshwater sources for crop cultivation. Meanwhile, as water becomes less accessible, droughts may cause irreversible damage to crops, leading to a long-term decrease in food production and economic stability.
