The Cities Expected To See Multiple 100°F Days This Week

So far, 2026 is shaping up to be one of the hottest years on record in the United States. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the average temperature in the continental U.S. was 48.2°F between January and May, nearly 5°F higher than the 20th century average for the same five month period. This year’s temperatures have been driven up by historic heatwaves during the spring season across large swaths of the country. Now, in the early days of summer, temperatures remain well above historical average in many of these same areas, as much of the Southwest braces for extreme heat this week. 

According to the latest available forecasts, temperatures of 100°F and higher are expected in multiple American cities over an area stretching from Texas to California. In some of these places, including Phoenix and Yuma, Arizona, triple-digit temperatures are not unusual this time of year. Still, even in these cities, heat in the coming days is expected to top historical averages by 5°F or more. 

Using data from the Southeast Regional Climate Center, Climate Crisis 247 identified the U.S. cities where temperatures are expected to top 100°F on multiple consecutive days this week. We reviewed forecasts for average daily highs in over 400 American cities and listed the 11 places where temperatures are expected to top 100°F everyday between Wednesday, June 24 and Friday, June 26. Supplemental data on local populations are five-year estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 American Community Survey.
