Wildfire Smoke Greater Killer Than Car Accidents
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reported that wildfire smoke now kills more Americans annually than auto accidents. Drawing on a new Nature study, he highlighted how smoke from massive U.S. and Canadian wildfires travels across the country, penetrating lungs and organs and triggering fatal diseases. McIntyre emphasized that 41,000 deaths have been linked to wildfire smoke this year, making it one of the deadliest and most overlooked consequences of climate change.
