Los Angeles Hit By Poison Rain
According to Reuters the climate danger in LA has moved from wildfires to toxic rain as storms come in off the coast.
The news service points out the issues are: 1) Rain poses risk of spreading toxins from fire debris 2) Efforts to prevent toxic runoff include barriers and filters 3) Residents concerned about long-term health and environmental impacts
Heavy Pacific Rain
Huge rain storms often come from off the Pacific. They can be torrential as a river of range, tens of thousands of miles into the brings water from near Hawaii. It is nicknamed the “Pineapple Express”
The new danger should be how one form of climate change can morph into another. Hurricanes on the Florida coast caused tornadoes inland. Hot weather in Phoenix was exacerbated by hundreds of years of drought making parts of the city uninhabitable because of lack of water.
Home Insurance Rates
The inevitable problem with toxic rain is that it leads to higher insurance. Homeowners in LA already face insurance rates that could double, and some insurance companies that will not provide coverage at all.
People who cannot find home insurance cannot get mortgages, Homeowners can have insurance rates as high as their mortgage payments.
LA just got hit by another disaster.
