Today’s Minus 100 Degrees Shows How Cold The World Is

It’s minus 103 degrees at Vostok Antarctica today, which makes it the coldest place on Earth. In the nearby areas it is routinely at that temperature, or lower.
Vostok is a Russian research station created to test cold weather, ice cores, and meteorology. One reason for the extreme cold is that it is over 11,000 feet above sea level. This is why it is ideal for meteorology work
Too Cold To Live
It is located in Princess Elizabeth Land, in the area closest to the South Pole. The temperature in the region has not been hit much by global warming. The parts of the district near the edge of the continent have started to melt.
Scientists say it will only be protected from global warming for so long.
The population at Vostok is about 20 people most of the year.
