Climate change has made the weather in America more violent and more unpredictable. Recently, violent tornadoes and thunderstorms struck the Midwest and the Middle South.

Americans have come to expect sophisticated warning systems. However, recently, the hurricane sirens failed to sound in St. Louis.

At this point, iPhones and Android-based phones are the best way for people to receive warnings of nearby violent storms.

According to the iPhone user guide, “You can receive notifications when precipitation or certain severe weather events are forecasted in your current location.” The user then turns on notifications for “Severe Weather and Next-Hour Precipitation.”

Government Alerts

Government alerts, which include those for dangerous weather, are automatically turned on in iPhones.

AI may take the smartphone weather service even further, making it even more accurate. New services from Nvidia, Google, and Microsoft have superior long-term forecast functions than present weather products do. Additionally, AI can track and predict the weather down to the most minute areas geographically. Personalized weather takes on a new meaning.

Public alerts for storms may soon become unnecessary.
