Surprise? Wyoming and north Dakota lead nation in number of public chargers per EV


There are two basic ways to measure the number of public EV chargers by state. One is the total number, and the other is the number of public chargers per EV. Wyoming is the leader based on the second measure.

According to driving prep firm Zutobi, the Cowboy State has 22.12 chargers for every 100 electric vehicles. North Dakota is second, offering 21.79 charging stations per 100 EVs. Both states are thinly populated and low-level EV adopters, with Wyoming only having 1,139 registered electric vehicles (0.62% of vehicles) and North Dakota a meager 959 (0.41%).

At the other end of the scale, California is 44th, which is first in registered EVs at 1,256,646 (9.27% of its automobile total) and containing over 15% of all EVs in the U.S. Florida, which is another state that is EV-heavy, is 46th on the chart, with a 3.33% adoption rate.
