Gas Pumps May Get Air Pollution Warning Stickers
It would be like the warming statements on cigarette packages: “Caution: Cigarette Smoking May Be Hazardous to Your Health.” However, the warning would be on gasoline pumps in a new case. “WARNING: Use of this product releases air pollutants and greenhouse gases, known by the state of Colorado to be linked to significant health impacts and global heating, respectively.”
The bill that would make this law is in Colorado. Fox 31 reports, “The fuels that would be labeled under the bill are any gas or liquid produced through processing crude oil, liquid hydrocarbons at a natural gas plant, finished petroleum products at blending facilities and the conversion of biomass into biofuels, such as ethanol.”
Transportation Is 28% Of Emissions
The plan has science behind it, although the fossil fuels industry might fight it. Transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions account for 28% of US GHG emissions. EVs are such an important part of the US energy future because they are assumed to replace gas-powered cars.
Most people likely know the link between cars and pollution, and reminding them will not change their habits. Currently, 283 million vehicles are registered in the US, and 16 million new ones are sold yearly.
