Coal Stays King of Energy
Coal is down, but not out, according to the International Energy Agency. As reported by Samefor, demand for among the dirtiest sources of energy is outrunning supply. As a result, the IEA actually revised its near-term forecast for global coal demand upward compared to its forecast last year.”

*Use In World’s Two Largest Nations Surges
Coal accounts for about 36% of the world’s electricity generation. That makes it the single largest source. In the US, the figure is 16%. This is a sign that renewables are making some headway, but not nearly enough to curb coal’s greenhouse gas emissions
Google reports, “Coal is responsible for about 40% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels, and 45% of the world’s carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels.”
China And India Challenge
As has been the case with oil, one of the climate goals to cut the rise in the world’s temperature is to eliminate coal use altogether. However, in China, coal is used for 60% of the electricity supply. In India, the future is 75%. India, in particular , has made only modest success with renewables.
There is no reason to believe coal use will drop very rapidly in the next decade.
