The World’s Best Hybrid Car
The world’s best hybrid is also the world’s best-selling hybrid. The Toyota Prius is often listed as the best car in its class. First launched in 1997, Toyota has sold 5 million units.
The Prius has gone through five generations of major changes. It now comes in a plug in vision. It has won almost every major car award. The most recent was the Car and Driver 10 Best for the Year. It was also picked as the 2024 Best Car of the Year.
Priced Right
Toyota currently has Prius Prime which is the plug-in model. It has a base price of $32,975. Its MPG is up to 48 for the city and 114 for the highway. The base Prius carries a price of $27,950 and has MPG of 57 in the city and 56 on the highway.
EVs Struggle
Consumers have started to turn their backs on standard EVs. (Tesla is selling used models at lower prices.) They want an assurance about range, and lack of charging stations. Even GM and Ford have cut back EV production in favor of hybrids The Prius has a small 4- cylinder engine, and the public is well aware of that.
The Prius shows that what was once a good idea was always a good idea and remains one. Hybrids seemed out of fashion. Now, they are back in force.
