BYD Global Sales Double Troubled Tesla’s

According to an analysis by Semafor, China’s EV giant sold 399,00 cars worldwide last September. Tesla sold 191,000. That spread is larger than most people expected.
The analysis says the spread is based on several factors. The two most important are the low prices of most BYD models. The other is BYD’s presence in China, which is its home and the largest EV market in the world.
The BYD numbers, however, went beyond the Chia sales, which should worry Tesla and other companies that expect to have successful EV sales worldwide.
While China sales remain the majority of BYD’s sales, the company has begun to expand into parts of Asia and South America. They are in the early stages of entering the European market, which will depend on the tariffs.Â
The US remains the market BYD needs to enter if it wants to be a truly global car company. US car companies are concerned that Chinese EV manufacturers could significantly damage their sales in the US. And, because Chinese vehicles tend to be inexpensive and of relatively high quality, there is a reasonable fear.Â
The only block to BYD’s chance of driving US sales is 100% tariffs. If the Trump Administration drops those, the American car industry is in trouble.
