Dump Your EV, No One Will Fix It
Most people can have their cars fixed if they need repairs. Some are under warranty and take them to their dealers. Others, mainly older cars, need to be fixed by mechanics. There are over 280,000 auto mechanics in the US. However, almost none of them can fix EVs.The challenge in the UK likely matches that in America relatively closely. According to Bloomberg, “Fewer than 10% of the UK’s 236,000 auto mechanics are qualified to work directly on EV batteries or their cases, according to the Institute of the Motor Industry, which provides training and certification.”

Some EV owners have an advantage. They bought cars from mainstream dealers like Ford, Cadillac, and Kia. However, the mechanic shortage becomes critical as cars age and their warranties expire.

The EV industry does not need another challenge. EV sales growth has slowed and moved into reverse gear in some parts of Europe and the US. People complain about charging times, charging stations, tire wear, and the cost of a new car. Now, they have to worry about where to get that car repaired as it ages.
