These Texas Towns Could Be Hit By Major Storms Today

After heavy storms dropped as much as eight inches of rain on Kerr County and Ingram, Texas, killing over 50 people, more storms have begun to hit nearby. The towns most likely to hit are Clinton, Comanche, Gatesville, and Hamilton.
Each of these towns also has a flood watch or flood warning. The water in each is expected to rise above flood stage.
None of these towns are large, but there are hundreds of people who face some flood risk. Gatesville has a population of 16,000. Comanche’s population is 4,200. Clinton’s is 1,200. If each has the same problems as those in Kerr County, they have little defense against a violent storm that can dump inches of rain in a few hours.
North Carolina Floods
Aside from lives that are at risk, so are infrastructures, homes, and businesses. They are not unlike parts of Western North Caroline which were destroyed by floods from the remnants of Hurricane Helene. The cost of the area’s destruction was estimated at $53 billion, and much of what was damaged remains unrepaired. The area around Kerr County is much smaller than that in Carolina, so there is less to damage and less to repair.
While the Kerr Country floods are less extensive in geography than many others that have flooded in the U.S. recently, the disaster is proportionately just as severe.
