Australia is in the midst of an unprecedented heatwave. Each of the 15 hottest places in the world today, as measured by temperature, is in Australia. And in each, the temperature is over 100 degrees F. Although the average daily temperature at Urandangi Aerodrome at this time of year is usually 10 degrees F lower than today, about a year ago, the temperature spiked above 105 degrees F.
The heat wave has also hit Australia’s largest cities. According to The Daily Mail, “Sydney’s west will be hardest hit by the heat with temperatures going up to 40C, whilst other areas have been warned of severe heatwave conditions.” Temperatures are expected to cool but remain above historical levels.
Are these temperature increases because of global warming? Almost certainly, as they have been across the globe, including the US.
