Flood Threat In New Orleans, New York

NOAA has released its Seasonal Precipitation Outlook for May, July, and June. New Orleans is the area of the US most likely to experience well above-average appreciation, which occurs just as hurricane season begins.Â
The other area likely to have well above-average precipitation is the mid-Atlantic region, which has been battered by hurricanes in recent times. The cities along this coast include Washington and New York. Each has low-lying areas barely above sea level.Â
Hurricane Sandy
Hurricane Sandy in October 2012 crippled a great deal of the coast. Atlantic City was ruined and has never come back. The same is true with resort towns in the same location.
Sandy knocked out electricity in the southern part of Manhattan and swamped much of Queens. At the time, then-governor Cuomo said, “We have a 100-year flood every two years now.” If so, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are past due.
High Number Of Deaths
Since 2000, New Orleans has been hit by over two dozen tropical storms and hurricanes. Scientists say it is hit by a hurricane every 2.8 years. The deadliest of these was Hurricane Katria, which hit the city in August 2005. It damaged or destroyed over 130,000 housing units, close to three-quarters of the city’s total. There were 1,577 deaths across Louisiana.
While it is not possible to forecast strong storms in months. The long-term forecast of hurricane-battered areas is troubling
