According to Bloomberg, “AI is capable of eerily accurate forecast tracks.” Eerily and weather forecasting do not usually go together, but the acceleration of AI as a tool has appeared at light speed.
Forecasters working with AI can still be significantly mistaken. For instance, October’s Hurricane Milton was supposed to hit Tampa head-on; instead, it turned south at the last moment and slammed into the Florida coast 50 miles south of the city.
Another aspect: If AI replaces the weatherman, it will be further proof that humans can be replaced in other jobs, even when it comes to complex tasks. Humans have started to worry about who will be replaced and who will not, and they should.
