Almost every one of the world’s cities is rat infested. In some, like New York, there are teams that fight them. They have large budgets, but are only partially successful.

According to ScienceAdvance, “Warming temperatures and more people living in cities may be expanding the seasonal activity periods and food availability for urban rats.” The researchers looked at 16 cities which included Washington D.C., New York, and Amsterdam. Eleven of the cities posted a sharp rise in rat population. Cold weather tends to slow the rates at which rats reproduce.
According to New York City officials, “Rats can be a problem for residents, property owners, businesses and entire neighborhoods. Their gnawing and burrowing can cause damage and they can contaminate food, spread disease and reduce our quality of life.”
Big Problems In Chicago
Orkin reports that the most rat infested cities in the US are Chicago, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco. Its experts wrote, “This decade-long dominance highlights the city’s ongoing battle with rodents, as well as the efforts taken to treat their presence, which has been driven largely by the Windy City’s infrastructure and environment.”
Put another way, the situation is not going to get better.
