Hurricane Season Doesn’t End Until Nov 30
The US is only partway through the hurricane season. It runs from June 1 until Nov 30. That means there are over five weeks to go. Hurricanes that have hit the US posted total damage close to $300 billion if Accuweather’s numbers are the measure.

*Helene Does $250 Billion In Damage
Based on the same calculations, Hurricane Helene caused nearly $250 billion in damage, while Hurricane Beryl cost $32 billion.
The pace of hurricane formation could speed up until the end of next month. After NOAA forecast that warm Atlantic water would make this year one of the most frequent and violent storm years, activity was modest. That has quickened in less than a month.
The Atlantic temperature is only one factor in the powerful nature of new storms. The Gulf of Mexico water is so warm that tropical storms feed on it. They can strengthen into hurricanes in two or three days and become even stronger as they move toward the coast of Houston to southern Florida.
It is impossible to forecast how many intense storms there will be next month.
If Hurricanes Helene and Milton are a sign of things to come, it is important to remember they formed less than two weeks apart. The water in the Gulf of Mexico is over 80 degrees F, making it one of the warmest bodies of water in the world. Almost nothing fuels and strengthens hurricanes faster.
