It’s Too Hot For Arizona Diamondbacks To Play Ball

The Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team plays in Chase Field, mainly during the summer. So far this year, the high daily temperatures in Phoenix, home to the team, have been over 100 degrees F for 100 days. It is getting too hot to play baseball.

The team’s lease to play at Chase Field ends in three years. The country and several private organizations are trying to raise the hundreds of millions of dollars needed to modernize the stadium, but there are challenges. Most involve the rising heat inside the stadium, and who will pay to solve that problem?
Too Hot For Baseball
According to The Guardian, “This financial dispute is taking place against the backdrop of dire climate warnings for the city, including that by 2100 it will be too dangerous for anyone – athlete or otherwise – to work outside for 162 days of the year, and the team is already struggling to keep the stadium cool enough for fans throughout the summer.”
The problem is not unique to Phoenix. Major summer sports are played in Miami, Houston, and Dallas. The problem may not be as acute as in Arizona, but it will be.
What happens to these baseball teams? They may have no choice other than to move north.
