Miami May Get Canada Wildfire Smoke

It seemed unimaginable just a week ago. Wildfire smoke from fires in northwest Canada have spread from the U.S. border with Canada down through the Midwest and New York. The line of smoke has gone as far south as Miami
While Miami’s air quality is much better than New York’s, there is a warning that “sensitive groups may experience minor to moderate symptoms from long-term exposure.” Since the wildfires are still burning and some are out of control, the movement of smoke south could continue.
The spread of the wildfire smoke is part of a pattern. Dust from the Sahara recently reached Florida, which is 5,000 miles away. The smoke from the LA wildfires in January spread East.
Zombie Fires
The largest danger down the east seaboard of the US is probably “Zombie fires” from Canada’s northeast. Because they burn beneath the earth’s surface, they are almost impossible to control.
Hurricanes and extreme heat often threaten Miami. Better constitution and air conditioning have been set up to combat these.
Miami was not built to combat airborne smoke. That may change.
