The World’s Greatest Weather Forecaster?

AI has changed the weather forecasting business completely. For years the models used would be based on physics. This process has been improved over time but continues to be notoriously inaccurate. Forecasters completely missed where Hurricane Milton would come ashore. It was to hit Tampa, only to make a large turn and hit Florida well south on the Gulf shore.
*Weather Affect On America’s Money
A new generation has proven itself much more accurate, based on early tests of AI weather forecasts. They appear to be much better looking two weeks out, and much, much better two days out.
According to Axios, “Swiss Weather intelligence firm Meteomatics raised $22 million in a Series C round, the company announced Wednesday. The funding comes soon after the company announced that its ultra-high resolution computer model will soon be available across the U.S.” One advantage the newsletter reports, “it is to pick up data other models miss.” That would be a big deal.
While these models may not be a powerful tool with on the ground events like wildfires, the most violent events in many parts of America are storms. Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, New Orleans and Houston are the largest victims. These violent events are hurricanes.
Storms from as far away as Hawaii are pounding the West Coast with rain. Wildfires have damaged roots that keep much in place. The rains, therefore, cause land slides
Midwest Disasters
In the middle of the US, the threat is thunderstorms, hail, flooding, and wind.
One issue that remains open is whether weather forecasts mean lower insurance rates. Can anticipation of dangerous storms improve preparation? Can preparation improve results
AI can forecast, but can’t change behavior.
