World’s Rich Nations Abandon Poor Ones On Climate

The way the greening of the world was supposed to work was that as the richest nations cut their contributions to global warming they were going to underwrite the work of poor nations to do the same. The rich nations have walked away from the bargain, which leaves the poor ones stranded.

The Guardian reports, “The vast majority of governments are likely to miss a looming deadline to file vital plans that will determine whether or not the world has a chance of avoiding the worst ravages of climate breakdown.”

Even if rich nations reported, it is likely that most are well behind their goals. China and the US are the world’s largest polluting nations. In the future, America could miss many of its plans as the Trump Administration turns its back on the green world and in the direction of pumping as much oil as possible. Most mega-tech companies have give up their green plans as they rush to build AI server farms.

India, the world’s No.3 polluter, still have a fast growing economy fueled by coal. If it cuts back on coal use, it cuts back on the rapid rise of GDP

Hurdles For Poor Nations

Poor nations that were promised those hundreds of billions of dollars need to get their energy from “not green” sources. “Much of the increase in coal consumption in developing world relates to, well… development. As societies move from agricultural to industrialized, their need for energy increases, often manifold.” researcher at the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy recently pointed out

The world is getting less green, and that is because nations that made pledges are not fulfilling them, and don;t want to say so publicly
