Florida Hit By Lightning 14 Million Times
Douglas McIntyre, Editor-in-Chief at Climate Crisis 24/7, reported from New York City on a startling new study revealing that Florida experienced 14 million lightning strikes last year. He explained that while many of these are cloud-to-cloud, the majority strike the ground, causing significant damage and sparking fires — including many wildfires in the American West. Though climate change is contributing to the increase in lightning activity, McIntyre noted that it’s unlikely to drastically reduce lightning occurrences, leaving Florida in a state of ongoing risk.
