Severe Flood Watch And Damage Hits Northeast

Unusually violent rain will bring floods across parts of the Northeast. This will be concentrated in western Massachusetts, eastern New York State, and northeast Connecticut. Parts of this area already suffered from several inches of rain last week.
The National Weather Service issued the Flood Watch, which runs from Friday at 5 AM until Saturday at 8 AM. “Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.”
Flash Floods
While potential flooding is probably not a danger to humans, the damage it creates can be in the millions of dollars. There are flood plains in part of western Massachusetts and some along the Hudson River in New York.
“A Flood Watch is issued when conditions are favorable for a specific hazardous weather event to occur.” One danger of these can be flash flooding, which can hit both roads and houses. These can be particularly dangerous because they happen so quickly.
“A flash flood is a sudden and often violent torrent that can develop in hours or even minutes. Usually caused by heavy rain, a flood can also occur in areas downstream that are not experiencing precipitation.” The next few days in the Northeast will be dangerous.
