Houston Uses More Air Conditioning Than Any City In The World

Houston is certainly among the hottest large cities in America. However, it would not make a list of the hottest cities in the world. Nevertheless, it uses more air conditioning than any metropolitan area on earth.
Among all cities measured in a study titled “Daikin World Air Survey,” the highest air conditioning figure is in Houston where the figure is “average daily usage of 17.2 hours.” The report shows “In Houston, approximately 40% of people use air conditioners for 24 hours a day in summer.”
Asian Cities
The researchers add “The cities with the second and third longest hours of use were Riyadh, Saudi Arabia with 14.9 hours, and New York with 12.6 hours.” Several huge cities in Asia were also in the ranking of the top 15. Tokyo finished fourth and Shanghai finished sixth.
The city that is often cited hottest among large metros is New Delhi, which finishes seventh with 10.4 hours per day. A huge majority of the population does not have air conditioning. The poverty level in the city is extraordinarily high. Heat waves often push temperatures above 110 degrees F.
To some extent, Houston is high on the list because its population is relatively wealthy.
