Hurricane Forecasts 100% Accurate?
The Atlantic Hurricane season ended yesterday. Aside from huge storms, there was another major development related to this violent weather. Forecasters think they can forecast wind speeds with tremendous accuracy, which would be a huge step forward in meteorology.
According to Nautilus, “Now a team of scientists has developed a model that, for the first time, allows them to calculate how warming ocean temperatures have contributed directly to wind speeds in individual hurricanes. Using this model, they were able to determine, for instance, that climate change bumped Hurricane Rafael up two whole categories (from 1 to 3) earlier this month, and pushed another two hurricanes this year into category 5, the highest category, in which wind speeds exceed 157 mph.”
Forecaster’s Dream
If the claim is true, it would be a forecaster’s dream. Additionally, it could save hundreds of lives each year across both hemispheres. It could also prevent or mitigate billions of dollars in damages.
The new forecasting tool will be supercharged by AI almost without question. The weatherman’s forecasts may soon be accurate.
