The annual report from the World Economic Forum has been released. It is titled “Global Risks Report 2025: Conflict, Environment and Disinformation Top Threats.”

*Climate Change List Rises

*Threat To American Cities

*Chocolate Price Risks

Among its primary conclusions–”Environmental risks dominate the 10-year horizon, led by extreme weather events, biodiversity loss and ecosystem collapse.”

The study divides risks into short, intermediate, and long term .Environmental risks are so great because they can lead to violent weather, the report points out. Without citing it, the wildfires in Los Angeles are a perfect example of short term risk. The report’s authors do write, “Overall, extreme weather events were identified prominently as immediate, short-term and long-term risks.”

Other aspects of environmental risk are falling biodiversity, resource shortages, and affects on health. One reason for high risk ratings is that the climate crisis affects the environment on land, in the area, and in the oceans.

Health risks have already begun to manifest themselves. Some areas with huge populations are barely livable. This includes several large cities in India. Drought is a health risk because it can collapse food chains. Much of Somalia is no longer farmable.

Temperature Spikes

Perhaps most significant is the huge issue of climate migration challenges. Part of Somalia will not support human life. As temperatures rise above 125 F, the health of millions of people will be compromised. And, these temperatures are often accompanied by climate caused air pollution.

As 2024 was the hottest day on record worldwide, and is a trend not likely to reverse itself, the catastrophe has picked up pace.
