The city’s temperature is over 100 degrees in March and September. It drops to about 70 degrees in December and January. From June to October, it rains many days, with a peak in August.
Leaving Senegal
About a third of the population of Senega lives in poverty. According to the BBC, many people are leaving. Many have tried to reach the Canary Islands. The news service reports, “From Senegal, it is an estimated distance of between 1,000km (600 miles) and 2,000km on the open ocean – depending on where you leave from, around 10 times the distance of other migrant routes crossing the Mediterranean.”
Among the other reasons people are leaving is climate change-driven heat, reaching as high as 125 degrees F. It is also occasionally hit by huge storms from the Atlantic.
