2024 Is The Hottest Year In History Again
There were 41 additional days of extreme heat this year, which means 2024 will be the hottest year on record. Climate change was given as the reason. The figures come from the World Weather Attribution and Climate Central.
*Dangerous Weather
“The finding is devastating but utterly unsurprising: Climate change did play a role, and often a major role in most of the events we studied, making heat, droughts, tropical cyclones and heavy rainfall more likely and more intense across the world, destroying lives and livelihoods of millions and often uncounted numbers of people,” Friederike Otto, the lead of World Weather Attribution and an Imperial College climate scientist. He put the problem directly on the shoulders of fossil fuel companies.
Many sources have pointed out that fossil fuel companies have given up on their commitment to green energy. Their massive cash flow was almost the only source for funding these advances. That leaves a patchwork of governments worldwide to provide funding, which has not worked.
Global Relocations
The effects on the global economy are nearly as profound as that of a rising number of human deaths. There are now tens of millions of climate refugees. Some of these are in Mexico and pushing across the US border. The problem is much worse in parts of Africa and Asia. The cost to relocate these people would be hundreds of billions of dollars. If the sums are that large, finding them homes may not be possible. Entire national economies like the one in Somalia have been destroyed. And this will spread.
Capital flows into fossil fuels, not solutions to curb the climate crisis.
