America Gets Ready For Acid Rain

When smog floated above America’s big cities, it caused acid rain. It is sulfuric or nitric acid that falls to the ground from the atmosphere in wet or dry forms in rain, snow or fog. At least one scientist believes that acid rain will return as clean air rules disappear.

According to The Guardian, Gene Likens, who coined the term in the 1960s, is the prominent scientist who sounds the horn the loudest. “I care about the health of my children and grandchildren, I want them to have clean air to breathe. I care about clean water and clean and healthy soil, I want them to have that too.”

Problem Of AI And Air Conditioning

There had been hope that coal would disappear as a source of electricity. However, new electricity needs are driven by demand from air conditioning and AI server farms, which will allow coal to come back.

Acid rain is not just an issue for the air. When it falls on rivers or lakes, it can kill the wildlife that relies on clean water. Sometimes, this works its way up the food chain to humans. Like other environmental problems, it can kill off species.

Smog Comes Back

Smog could start to linger over cities again. According to ozone measurements and particle pollution in and around LA, the air is the dirtiest in the country. Wildfires make the problem worse. Seattle and Detroit have related problems, but not as severe.

Acid rain could return to some American cities, and with it, problems it caused five decades ago
