Trump’s Decision Ruins Large Wind Company

Danish wind company Ørsted has just taken a $1.5 billion write-off on a US-based wind project. It may wreck its prospects in the sector.. The US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has stopped the company’s $1.5 billion Revolution Wild project, which was over three-quarters built.
Ørsted planned to raise new capital. This project is much less likely to happen. If Ørsted were not backed in part by the Danish government, it might not survive. Its stock is down 90% in the last three years. Its Sunrise Wind, another wind farm in the US, is in jeopardy as well.
The Trump decision to stop offshore wind projects has not only done damage to Ørsted. Every offshore wind project that is not fully completed will be frozen. The current installations have to worry that another Trump decision will take them offline.
Attack On Wind
Ørsted will try to convince a potential group of new investors that the balance of its businesses is viable. While they may be, the US operations are critical to its ability to exist at all, unless it gets much smaller. All the public company has left is its operations in Europe.
