Paris’ Extreme Heat Could Cripple Ambulance Service

Paris may bake in temperatures above 120 degrees F based on current trends. This would melt parts of the streets, which would make some of them impassable. It would mean an interruption of emergency service, which would include ambulances and buses, according to The New York Times.
“In 2019, temperatures in Paris hit a record, nearing 109 degrees. Scientists say it will get worse, particularly since climate change is warming Europe at more than twice the global average,” the paper reports
Already A Problem In Delhi
The issue of melting streets already exists in some cities. In Delhi, when temperatures top 113 degrees F. At this point, asphalt or bitumen roads begin to melt. Bitumen softens quickly in high heat. There have been similar problems in Kuwait City, Basra, and even Phoenix. Heavy vehicles are those most likely to be bogged down. Phoenix bus service has been interrupted in the past.
The solution to this problem is expensive. Usually, the best solution is to change road surfaces to concrete.
The human deaths from this heat would be terrible as well. This is not science fiction. Recently, The Lancet published a research paper titled “Excess mortality attributed to heat and cold: a health impact assessment study in 854 cities in Europe.” The forecast for the annual death toll under extreme heat was put at 13,589.
