Air Pollution Hurts People’s Decision Making

A new study shows that air pollution hurts the ability of people to perform daily tasks. According to The Guardian, “Even brief exposure to particulate matter found to impede selective attention and emotional recognition.”

Actually, the study does not reveal much that is new. According to the Yale School of Public Health, “Air pollution and extreme temperatures disrupt cognitive functioning through psychological pathways as well. Thermal stress may diminish a person’s attention, working memory, and information retention and processing.”
The list of environmental changes that harm humans more and more as time passes. Microplastics can hurt heart and brain function. Extreme heat can cause people to be disabled, or even die. Floods brought on by rising sea waters ruin homes and often cause injury or death.
Problem Gets Worse
The difficulty with these health effects is that they will only get worse. More and more nations are walking away from promises to cut greenhouse gases. Oil and coal production has risen in many parts of the world. The need for new energy sources is only likely to worsen.
