America’s Dirtiest Beach is In California
Unsafe levels of bacteria are seriously fouling several of America’s beaches. In some cases, tourists will no longer visit them. The worst of these is Imperial Beach in San Diego.
Oil News –How Much Oil Is Too Much Oil?
The Surfrider Foundation’s 2023 Clean Water Report examined 9,538 water samples collected from 567 distinct sampling sites. The work was done by the Blue Water Task Force (BWTF). A few of these were from outside the US, in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Britain Columbia. The benchmark was “measuring high bacteria levels that exceed state health standards for recreational water.”
Hawaii Issues
The high bacteria rate at Imperial Beach was one hundred, which is the highest figure possible. The rate was the same at Kahului, Hawaii.
According to the LA Times, Imperial Beach ” has been closed for more than two years because of toxic water from the Tijuana River Watershed flowing into the ocean.”
NIH reports, “In general terms, the greatest microbial risks are associated with ingestion of water contaminated with human or animal feces.”
