Morgan City Braces For Hurricane Francine

Morgan City, LA, is likely to be the place where Hurricane Francine’s most deadly winds and flooding come ashore. The town has a population of about 10,000. It sits on the Atchafalaya River, part of the Mississippi, near where it dumps into the Gulf of Mexico.
Morgan City has been damaged by hurricanes that have damaged the area around New Orleans before, and it will be damaged again.
Hundreds Of Small Cities
Morgan City is like hundreds of other cities and towns decimated by the effects of climate change. More than a thousand miles to the north, Yellowknife was evacuated due to wildfires—all 20,000 residents left on August 18 of last year.
This was supposed to be a violent Atlantic hurricane season. With less than two months to go, it has yet to be. The only large storm, Beryl, turned into a Category 5 hurricane. By the time it hit Texas, it was a Category 1. It knocked out electricity for over a million people and caused billions of dollars in damage.
Morgan City is about to be crushed.
