Portland Has The Cleanest Air In The World
According to research firm IQAir, Portland has the cleanest air among the world’s largest cities. Its measurements are based on PM2.5 data reported in units of micrograms per cubic meter (μg/m 3 )
Each city receives a score. From 0 to 50 is “good,” from 51 to 100 is “moderate’, from 101 to 150 is “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” from 151 to 200 is “unhealthy,” from 201 to 300 is “very unhealthy,” and above 300 is “hazardous.”
US Tends To Be Clean
Portland’s figure is 11. Worldwide, the central US is usually at the top of the list throughout the year.
The cities which tend to have “hazardous” measures are in India, China, and Pakistan. At this level, the chances people with preexisting conditions can die is high. In most of these situations, the scores are getting worse because of the burning of fossil fuels.
Third World
IQAir reports that local, state, and federal regulations greatly influence Portland’s clean air. Many large emerging and third-world nations do not have that.
