EVs Don’t Get Stolen

The HLDI Insurance report titled Whole vehicle thefts is out—
“The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat four-door, a large SUV, had the highest whole vehicle theft claim frequency at nearly 53 times the all-passenger-vehicle average. The Tesla Model 3 electric four-door 4WD, a midsize luxury car, had the lowest whole vehicle theft claim frequency at just 1% of the all passenger-vehicle average.”
According to Axios, “The lowest theft claims come from versions of the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, the Hyundai Tucson, the Volvo XC90, and the GMC Acadia.”
Least Stolen
The report adds, “the 20 vehicle series with the lowest relative claim frequencies for whole-vehicle theft. Five of the 20 vehicles are electric — of those, four are manufactured by Tesla — and an additional four are hybrids or plug-in hybrids.
The low theft rate may be due to a lack of charging stations and battery range. This is the same reason people don’t buy cars, either.
