The World’s Cheapest AI Powered EV

China EV leader BYD has launched a $9,555 self-driving car with a new “Golden Eye” self-driving AI feature. The car is a major threat to both EV and traditional car companies worldwide, if its self driving feature acts as advertised.

BYD Is EV Leader

According to Reuters, “BYD had previously only offered such features, which enable cars to navigate highway traffic autonomously under human driver supervision, in models priced from $30,000.”

The primary threat in the short term is the other Chinese EV companies which may not be able to offer similar vehicles at such a low price. However, BYD sells its cars in parts of Asia and has entered markets outside the US and Europe, each of which has high tariffs on Chinese EVs. (The EU may drop its, or lower them,)

Chinese EV Threat

Longer term, it is a threat to US car companies, which have not been able to mass produce EVs that sell for much less than $35,000. And, self driving features on American cars, except Tesla’s, are considered primitive.

US Tariffs

The day may come when the US may drop tariffs on EVs. If US car companies have not made progress on electric batteries and AI assisted driving, they will take a relentless beating.
