China’s largest EV company has launched the BYD Shenzhen Car Carrier, the world’s largest ship of its kind.
It was put to sea on April 27 from the ports of Jiangsu, China. It will go to Brazil with 7,000 electric vehicles. This 219-meter, 16-deck giant holds 9,200 cars and runs on eco-friendly LNG dual-fuel.
It is BYD’s fourth carrier It will drive EV exports to overseas markets, Brazil’s EV sales were up 328% in 2024. BYD plans to add to this fleet
Brazil And Mexico Sales
Although tariffs have largely kept BYD from the US and EU, Brazil ranks 6th. It also sells cars outside Brazil, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey, and much of South America.
The BYD Shenzhen Car Carrier shows that the company has no intention of relying on other shipping companies. This gives it an edge against many competitors. It plans to control as much of the supply chain as it can, end to end.
Because of BYD’s dominant position in China, the world’s largest car market, it can fund expansion without any outside capital.
