Popularity Of EVs Starts To Disappear

EV adoption surged from an extremely low level in 2018 to 2023, and then it faltered. The year 2024 was rough for EV car companies. Tella’s sales fell. Legacy car companies like GM and Ford saw some growth, but EV sales were only about 5% of their total. New data from Gallup shows that “EV Appeal Hits The Brakes.”

Other hurdles to EV adoption have been tire wear, charging station availability, and range. Gallup’s research shows, “The percentage of Americans who either own or express interest in owning an electric vehicle decreased from 59% in 2023 to 51% in 2024 and remains at the reduced level today.”

Age Matters

The worse news is, “The groups most likely to express interest in EVs in 2023 — Democrats, liberals, young adults, college graduates, and residents of the West — are (except for liberals) the ones that have shown the biggest declines.”

The staggering drop was among adults ages 18 to 34. The drop was 11 points between 2023 and 2025 (from 75% who would consider an EV to 64%). Among college graduates, the point spread was an identical 11 points (72% to 61%)

Ford’s $5 Billion Lose

Tesla’s revenue and stock price are already in jeopardy. Ford says it will lose $5 billion to $5.5 billion on its EV division this year.

America is returning to a nation that strongly favors the gas-powered car. If so, an entire industry and the environment are in trouble.
