Tesla China Sales Soar
Vehicle sales by manufacturers in China for May have just been released. Tesla’s sales in the world’s largest car market rose 17% year over year to 72,573. It is a relief in a market where Tesla’s sales have weakened, and there were questions about whether they would recover.
China Advantage –An Amazing Motor
The US car company did underperform its primary competition. According to The Wall Street Journal, “Its rival BYD sold 330,488 units in May, marking the third straight month of more than 300,000 in vehicle sales.”
Among Tesla’s disadvantages in China is that some local companies sell cars for as little as $10,000. Some believe the central government subsidizes some of their costs. These subsidies are among the reasons the US government has put 100% tariffs on China EVs.
Tesla’s sales have slowed worldwide. Although China’s success is one means to recovery, US sales are just as essential. Tesla cars are considered expensive in America. The company is building a $25,000 MSRP car to help solve that issue.
Observers believe Tesla is in deep trouble. If the uptick in China sales continues, that is not true.
