A new study published in The Lancet Planetary Health, “Impact of climate change on arsenic concentrations in paddy rice and the associated dietary health risks in Asia: an experimental and modelling study,” suggests that a portion of the world’s rice supply is being poisoned. The primary point of the study is that, by 2050, part of the rice supply will contain enough arsenic to be dangerous to consumers.

Among the key conclusions, “Modelled consumption of rice under these conditions resulted in projected increases in inorganic arsenic exposure and lifetime cancer and health risks for multiple Asian countries by 2050.” Ninety percent of the world’s rice is consumed in Asia. The cause of the problem is the rate at which rice absorbs CO2.

Heart And Cancer Problems

The poison is also attached to heart problems and other dangerous condiitons.

This is one of several human-caused weather-related issues. Microplastics are among others on the radar screen now. They have been found as deep as 20,000 under the ocean and are in every plastic water bottle. There is evidence that they can affect brain function and clog arteries.

Heavy air pollution in large Asian cities like Delhi and Beijing can also cause premature death due to lung conditions. Much of the pollution is caused by coal. In India, coal use is not dropping because it is key to industrial growth.

Asian population cannot do without rice, which makes the condition more dangerous.
