162 MPH Typhoon Roars Ashore

Category 5 hurricanes are not isolated to the Atlantic, nor are the billions of dollars of damage they cause. Ragasa, a Category 5 supertyphoon, has hit Hong Kong, one of the wealthiest regions of the world, and will also slam into China
Millions of people are in the path of the storm. Thousands of miles of land meet the sea in Hong Kong, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Large cities will also be affected, which means parts of these will have to be rebuilt, both residences and businesses.
Hong Kong Damage
The most massive cost related to the storm is unaffordable. Creating buffers to high winds, high tides, and rising seas is unimaginably expensive. There is no evidence to show that the central governments will undertake this. The skill required to do the work is remarkably high. So is a price when the money could go elsewhere, to places considered more important
No hurricanes have hit the shore in the US this year. That begins to give a sense that the storms will not come frequently. However, there were two Category 4 hurricanes that hit Florida last year–a reminder that Hong Kong, Tampa, and Miami have catastrophes in common.
