US Hit By 288 Tornadoes
Tornado season started on March 1. According to NOAA, 288 storms have already hit the US this year.
Hail storms often accompany tornadoes, reaching 389 over the same period.
Most of the storms were in the region, starting with Texas in the west, Kentucky and Tennessee in the east, Alabama and Mississippi in the south, and Illinois in the north.
37 Tornadoes And 37 Fatalities.
In one day, on March 16, as many as 37 tornadoes killed 39 people. The storms triggered other problems. Yale reports, “Two intense rounds of tornadoes caused most of the higher-end damage, but wildfires torched hundreds of structures, and highway accidents related to sudden, blinding dust caused almost a third of the fatalities.”
Among other effects, homeowner issuance has soared, even more than in hurricane-prone Florida areas. HousingWire reports, “While most of the insurance crisis news is focused on the impact of hurricanes and wildfires, hail is gaining ground as the repair of storm-damaged houses has grown so expensive that insurers are increasing premiums and even dropping homes to protect profits.”
The financial consequences of these storms go well beyond the initial damage
