Spain Gets Year Of Rain In Single Day
There have been record amounts of rain this year in areas around the world as far apart as North Carolina and Morocco. Spain can be added to the list, and the result was highly destructive. An area of Spain received a year’s worth of rain in one day.
*Flood Damage
According to The New York Times, “Spain’s meteorological agency said that between 150 and 200 liters per square meter, or roughly 40 to 50 gallons per square yard, fell in some areas over a two-hour period. And meteorologists expect the rains to continue until at least Thursday, if not through the weekend.” Several people were killed
The situation is similar to the one in western North Carolina, which was hit by rain from Hurricane Helene. Part of towns and small cities were destroyed, and people lost homes and businesses. Damages ranged into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Long Period Of Rebuilding
Hundreds of cars were destroyed, and some homes must be entirely rebuilt. As has been the case with other major floods, this may take years.
The Spain rain and flood catastrophe is another example of how extreme weather completely changes the landscape of some parts of the world.
